You may know by now how much I absolutely adore summer. One of my favorite things to do during this season is watch summertime movies! Curling up with a homemade treat and charming film makes for a simple celebration no matter the season. Because it’s July, I thought I’d put together a list of summertime movies that take place during this time of year. Our kindred community is so special and I always love exchanging recommendations with you. Feel free to leave your summertime movie recommendations in the comments below! đź’—
Summertime Movies
1. Tuck Everlasting
I believe this film has been on every movie list here on An Enchanted Life! I can’t recommend it enough. Tuck Everlasting is a heartfelt story that will inspire you to think about what’s most important in life. It also captures the essence of summer beautifully.
2. The Parent Trap
Which version of The Parent Trap did you grow up with? I love them both but have a particularly special memory of watching the remake when I was a little girl. If you haven’t seen The Parent Trap, it isn’t only a fun summertime movie, it’s a must-watch you’ll love!
3. It Takes Two
“That can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach for the stars over the fence, world series kind of love.” It Takes Two is about two identical girls living opposite lives who meet by chance one summer. Inspired by The Parent Trap, it’s charming, funny, and a great one to watch with family!
4. The Notebook
The Notebook could very well be the most quintessential summer romance film ever! Nicholas Sparks has a way of capturing summer love that’s particularly magical. Dear John and The Last Song are a couple more of his summertime movies that celebrate the magic of this season.
5. The Lizzie McGuire Movie
Lizzie McGuire arguably had one of the best fictional summers of all time. Between secretly posing as a pop star, a glittery tulle dress, and adventuring through Italy, this one is filled with summer fun (and will always bring back the fondest memories of my 90s/early 2000s childhood!)
6. The Sandlot
What is your favorite Sandlot quote? I can’t imagine a movie more summery – a nostalgic (and funny!) celebration of adolescence that never gets old.
7. Evening
Evening is a gorgeous film (I often think of it has a hidden gem) that follows the story of Ann Grant, a dying woman who recalls a summer weekend nearly 50 years prior and secret memories she made on Rhode Island.
8. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 1 & 2
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies are perfect for a chick flick double feature on a summer night! Have you seen them? Which one of the girls do you relate to most?
9. Endless Love
This 2014 adaptation of Endless Love tells the story of Alex and Jade’s summer romance. It includes teenage love, a disapproving father, summery montages, and a pretty score too!
