“She is a storyteller. Every destination, coffee date, wandering road she takes, adds to the story of her life.”
My name is Hayley aka “The Story Girl.” Before I even knew how to put it into words, I had fallen in love with storytelling. At age 5, I was given The Kingfisher Book of Great Girl Stories which introduced me to courageous heroines like Anne Shirley, Sara Crewe, and Dorothy Gale. Each page opened my eyes to new worlds and although I didn’t know it yet, would be the catalyst to tell my own stories one day.
My adolescent years were filled with overflowing diary pages, dogeared novels, and a growing curiosity about the art of storytelling — particularly, its power to connect every single one of us, even perfect strangers.
I spent my teen years weaving words into melodies which led to nights spent in sparkly dresses, performing my songs on stages like The House of Blues and The Hotel Cafe. My words have been published in best-selling magazines and the relentless daydreamer in me can’t wait for them to grace the pages of a novel one day.
The latest chapter in my endeavor to celebrate the magic of storytelling is The Enchanted Book Club, a platform designed for readers to delight in timeless classics. There, I have hosted live conversations with storytellers like Annie Barrows, (author of New York Times Best Seller, The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society), Emma Walton Hamilton (Julie Andrews’ daughter and author of 30+ children’s books), Kevin Sullivan (Emmy award-winning director of the Anne of Green Gables mini-series), and more.
Here at The Story Girl, I invite you to join me in honoring storytellers and to learn how beloved stories came to be. We will connect with all types of storytellers — the ones who made the movie you saw on your first date, who sang the soundtrack to your high school years, and who wrote the last book you stayed up all night reading.
My hope is that this space will inspire you to share the stories held in your heart. I truly believe we all carry stories inside us that have the power to change someone’s life, if only we discover the courage to declare…“once upon a time.”
