When it comes to adding a dash of romance to your personal style, it is helpful to begin by answering the following question: what does “romantic” mean to you?
Is it the scene of Pride and Prejudice when Darcy comes for Elizabeth? When Joe Fox says, “Don’t cry Shopgirl” in You’ve Got Mail? Maybe it’s the pair of earrings your grandpa gave your grandma for their first anniversary. Or the way the sky looks after it’s just rained.
The word “romantic” may have a different personal meaning to each of us. Although it can, romanticizing your style doesn’t always mean pearls and dresses and sparkles. It can be faded blue jeans, a simple striped top, or your favorite headband. Below are a few steps to romanticize your style as a true expression of your own heart ❤️
How to Romanticize Your Style
1. That Romantic Feeling
Most of us probably relate the word “romantic” to our favorite love stories. From Anne and Gilbert to Darcy and Elizabeth, there are so many inspiring tales about falling in love! If you’d like to make your personal style a little more romantic, it’s helpful to hone in on that beautiful feeling you experience when you think of your favorite love story.
2. Romantic Reminders
Ponder what other things…whether it be places, memories, or people, remind you of that feeling. If the ocean romances your heart for example, you can start incorporating more nautical-themed pieces in your wardrobe.
Also consider other ways to define “romantic.” In moments we feel nostalgic or wistful, we often feel romantic too!
Picnics are one of my “romantic reminders” so I love incorporating woven designs like this purse – it reminds me of a picnic basket!
3. Pick & Choose
Now that you’ve thought about what makes you feel romantic, you may find that you start viewing wardrobe pieces and accessories with a different eye. Maybe you’ll see that there are already pieces in your closet that romance your heart and you hadn’t realized that is the very reason why you love them so much!
If you don’t already own pieces that remind you of your own personal definition of romantic, the next time you go shopping, be sure to keep your romantic reminders in mind as you pick and choose.
